Fall is Door Season

The scent of autumn is in the air and with that beautiful fall wreaths and garland are brought out in droves to adorn our front doors.

new front doorFall is the time when many of our clients consider replacing their front entry doors, says Kate Ellison, the entry door specialist at Franklin Window & Door. "Whether they want to upgrade or simply desire an updated style, fall is what we lovingly refer to as door season. Doors are one of my favorite products that I help clients with because it makes such a statement on their homes," states Kate.

So with door season in full swing, we wanted to find out from Kate what the latest trends are this year. "The biggest trend I am seeing is the transition to 8ft tall doors not only in new construction but in replacement as well. Many of the homes built in the 80’s, 90’s and early 2000’s have standard height doors with a window above it, otherwise known as a transom. Many of my clients are opting to remove the transom and replace it with a full height door."

Another hot trend, according to Kate, is the replacement of a single door with two sidelites to a French or double door. We are also replacing quite a few doors that were popular a few decades ago with decorative glass and brass caming for doors with multi-lite clear or privacy glass.  "No matter what the hottest trends are, you should select the door that fits your style," emphasizes Kate. "Your new door should reflect your personality and taste."
